ABOUT US
At our company, we take pride in creating artisanal jams, jellies, and butters using locally sourced fruits. Our dedication to quality and passion for creating unique flavors is evident in every small batch we produce. We look forward to sharing our latest creations with you. Our company is dedicated to the memory of all the women in this family who laid the foundation for giving to the community and nurturing the family utilizing seasonal crops.
My grandmother Simmie prepared jams, jellies, and condiments that were so delicious. These items were such a huge part of my childhood. We picked, cleaned and prepared the fruit and vegetables that fed us during the winter. Simmie came up with very inventive ways to can the produce which offered rays of sunshine during the gray days of winter. My childhood memories revolve around picking, peeling, and preserving peaches, pears, and plums. We shelled peas, beans, corn, and tomatoes that all filled our freezer.
Though we were by no means wealthy we never lacked food because of her efforts, Simmie was born in the midst of the 1918 flu epidemic and grew into a very caring and hardworking woman. She was the mother of two hardworking sons and went on to raise four of her grandchildren. I was fortunate to be one of the four and learned all of my culinary skills at her stove. Simmie was raised by her maternal grandmother Serlina Flint Doyle after the untimely death of her mother Betty Washington Ward.
Serlina was 14 years old when emancipation of the enslaved occurred. She taught my grandmother how to cook and care for the family. So, our motto from our heart to your kitchen is indicative of the caring and nurturing that the women of this family have embraced for generations. Though Simmie is no longer with us, her memory lives on in our hearts and a part of her life and love is in each container of our product. Our product line includes both traditional and nontraditional flavors but are all small batch produced with no preservatives. We are proud of the products that 1918 Project produced and it is reflected in the depth of flavors that is in each container.
